Poetry Study

Does your teen LOVE poetry? Join our mini poetry study at Swish + Company. We start with a discussion about literary techniques, elements of poetry, and other fundamentals of poetry and move into a study of modern day song lyrics and close reading of poems. We will end our time together with original compositions being shared at our “Poetry Café”. 

Day 1: Fundamentals of literary techniques/ analysis of song lyrics/ close reading of poetry/ original found poetry composition

Day 2: Skill building activities/ compose a spoken word piece for our “poetry café”

Art Week: Focus on the Basics of Sketching and Drawing

Get back to the basics and spend some time with good ol’ pencil and paper. Join us for a week of focused attention on art skills inspired by the humble pencil. We will start with the basics and work towards our final project: a still life drawing. We will encourage confidence and risk taking as we develop on new or existing skills; we will focus on how to see the world ‘as an artist’. 

Day 1: Mark making, contour line drawings, principles of shading/texture

Day 2: A focus on: positive and negative space, examining light

Day 3: Shapes, shadows and proportions

Day 4: Still life:  final project
